I’m not TMZ or anything, but let this maybe be a lesson to all the young guns out there.

There were rumors flying around last week that Rihanna is broke, stemming from an interview on blackarazzi.com with her ex-business manager, Patricia Williams. In the interview, Williams revealed Rihanna only has somewhere around $20,000 to her name.

According to Williams, Rihanna accused her of stealing when the grim news was revealed. “I showed her all the paperwork and tried to explain to her the circumstances,” Williams said, “but she wouldn’t listen. She called me all sorts of horrible names and stormed off.”

Williams blamed Def Jam for underfunding Rihanna, causing her manager, Marc Jordan, to spend the money Rihanna makes from third-party endorsements and touring on videos and single promotion.

Williams said of Jordan, “he is a fantastic manager and genuinely believes in Rihanna. But he uses her money to fund her future projects because he believes he can break her in the world-market. Her album sales are not nearly as close to her single sales and he knows that if she is only known as a ’singles artist’ she will only be as good as her last hit.”

Def Jam was never very supportive of Rihanna, Williams said, to the point where she was almost dropped from Def Jam. It was only after the “S.O.S.” video was funded by Nike and Samsung, and hit the radio, that the label was willing to invest.

So it started a cycle of investment in her singles, meanwhile her album flopped. If it’s all true, it’s unfortunate, but should teach you all to keep a close eye on your paper! Even if you got someone taking care of it, make sure you know where that stuff is going, and ask questions… a lot of questions.

The fact that MTV UK and NME have reported on this doesn’t make it so much of a rumor anymore, either.
