I’ve been trying to think of a way to best feature the new MC’s that send material to me. I don’t always just want to simply post it up, because then it will just get lost in the shuffle (although sometimes I just do that). After all, I started this site in large part to give new MC’s/producers/DJ’s their shine when they may be having trouble getting on the mainstream sites.

With all that said, here’s the start of the Weekly Mic Check; something you can expect every Friday, and will highlight a new MC that stood out to me.

Download: Are Pure- Downside Up World

This week I’m happy to say that I’ve got a solid debut from an artist out of Hartford, CT, named Are Pure. He’s an affiliate of our mixtape alum and featured artist Front Page. The track he’s given us is called “Downside Up World,” which was produced by Speek. Are Pure is also going to be dropping a mixtape in a few weeks titled, Pay Your Child Support!!.

If you’re feeling the track, check out his MySpace or Aceos Music.

Download: Viva La Hova- presented by Mick Boogie and Terry Urban

This thing’s been gettin’ crazy face time all over the place, and for good reason. It’s in the usual vein of the dope Mick Boogie and Terry Urban collabos, where they’ll take samples and snips of one artist/group, and mash it up with some dope rap acapellas. If ya couldn’t tell, this one is Jay and Coldplay.

The two also recruited 9th Wonder, Cookin’ Soul, and some other dope producers for the project. Hit the jump for the tracklisting.

If you’ve really been following the investigation around JMJ’s murder, you know this guy’s story isn’t new (Uriel “Tony” Rincon’s). The story itself isn’t really even that new. I guess it’s just the first time he’s gone on TV with it.

The full MTV News article can be found here.

And if you want to save time scanning that article because the video ends on a cliff-hanger: No, Rincon didn’t see the killer’s face.

Rolling Stone just put together this list of songs that the Republican candidates of ‘08 have used at their rallies, and were subsequently sued/silenced/reprimanded for doing so.

I thought it was pretty funny when I heard about this phenomenon a few weeks ago. I’d be a lil embarrassed if I were McCain. Then again, he’s a Republican, and they aren’t embarrassed about soliciting sex from dudes in airports.

Download: Buff1/DJ Graffiti - What Does Hipster Mean?

This is a cut from DJ Graffiti’s upcoming mixtape Hipsters’ Need Soul Too. Peep Buff1’s album that dropped over the summer too, because it was a pretty good effort.

But I’m posting this because I think he sums it up well on the track:

“As long as your music is as tight as your jeans, then we tight.”

So there’s a place called Flocabulary in NYC that puts out these videos weekly. They “rap” up the week for you, but in the realm of politics, and “grown man bidness.” I’ve been meaning to post these, but I’ll get on my shit and do it weekly. Plus, my friend puts together the videos. What’s up Lala.

I smell a Mazzi Walking Blog / Flocab beef coming.

Download: Jelani - The Sixth Sense Freestyle

If you aren’t up on Jelani, he’s an artist over at Notherground (of 6th Sense fame). He was also on our first mixtape. Head over to www.waityoucanrap.com to cop his full album for free.

This one of those cuts I was tellin’ you about from my time in the studio the past 2 weeks. I love the way this turned out. It was definitely cool watching this track take shape, and learning a lot in the process.

Look forward to a lot more from Jelani soon.

DJ Clark Kent is kinda like hip-hop’s strongest link to sneaker culture in a lot of ways, and listening to him talk about either hip-hop or kicks is always like one of those fire-side chats. And I mean that in the most respectful way, not like “that dude’s old and boring.”

Peep those Olympic AF1’s he shows off midway too. Bet Michael Phelps doesn’t even have those.

Figured I’d post this before I head out for the night. Was in the studio all day, and I can say that there’s going to be some real heat hittin’ here soon.
