Jay-Z recently told MTV News that he never said Blue Print 3 would drop before the end of 2008. Kanye West also told MTV that they’re taking their time on the album because of the success of “Swagger Like Us”:

“I mean, it’s phenomenal,” West told MTV Base. “We went in and we done the whole album. He wanted to do a few more joints, so he kinda pushed it back. Now we’re gonna go in and just work on some more records. So I got some more stuff to kill it with! I think [Jay pushed the album back because] ‘Swagger’ just did so incredible. We wanted to go up [and make sure] everything was on that level.”

Let’s briefly breakdown the Blue Print 3 time-line of events:

The internets started buzzin’ in August with word that The Blueprint 3 would be Hov’s next album. Things got even crazier when a release was pinned before the end of 2008, and Kanye West was being tapped to handle most of the production duties.

Shortly after that, Mr. West dropped “Love Lockdown” and announced 808’s and Heartbreak. Then the speculation inevitably came through as to how Yeezy could handle two major projects in a short time period. Rumors soon surfaced on gossip sites that Jay missed the necessary deadlines to have an album printed before the end of 08. The same sites also said Ye wasn’t turning in beats anymore either. MTV’s latest report kinda squashes all this.

The moral of the story is that you won’t see Blue Print 3 til next year. It’s not like there’s any shortage of releases in the last days of ‘08 though.
