Archive for January, 2009

Figured I’d post this up before I head to sleep for the night. I’ve been a lil video-happy lately, but I’d say it’s quality stuff, and I’m a stan of the YouTube generation. Either way, VIMBY always does great work. Doesn’t hurt that it’s a profile of the dude that made one of my favorite beats of 2008.

Pittsburgh’s own takes a stab at Ye’s opener on 808’s. Drake showed you the potential it has for rappers, and I don’t think Khalifa falls short at all.

Go Steelers.

President Obama. Love the way that sounds.

George Bush is just plain ole George Bush now.

Anyway, here’s the track that people have been going crazy over today. May as well be the inauguration anthem.

I don’t need to say much, it’s a great day.

Part 2 is on the way… when YouTube feels like delivering…

“I’m the King of Rock, there is none higher,
Sucker MC’s should call me sire.”

They’ll join Metallica, Jeff Beck, Little Anthony and the Imperials, and Bobby Womack for the class of 2009.

Congratulations. I’m also glad I could make good my wish. For more on the induction, check out Rolling Stone.

Download: Joe Budden- Letter to Saigon (diss)

I thought Joe would be shying away from beef for AT LEAST a little bit after the Ransom thing, but damn this didn’t take long at all.

You’d think these two would get along. If you read me Saigon and Joe Budden’s individual resumes, I’d have trouble telling them apart: a rapper with talent and huge potential builds a stable following, signs a deal with a major label, gets screwed by the label, gets dropped from the label, and is itching to release “that record” that will put him in the spot he deserves.

Shit, they should start a super group.

Welp, your move, Saigon.

Diddy’s converted his video blog lately and has been doing a series of videos about Biggie, affectionately titled the “Diddy/Biggie Confessional.” They’ve all been what you’d expect to hear, and Diddy goes hard for the Notorious flick (out in theaters tomorrow by the way). This was was kinda interesting though, if for no other reason than any time Pac and Biggie’s names are together in the same sentence, people pay attention.

The most interesting part is the quote in the title of this post, “Biggie did not make ‘Who Shot Ya’ about 2Pac.” Most of you probably know Biggie and Pac were close, through years of people like Diddy insisting on it anyway, but I can’t really remember people ever involving that song in their argument.

Download: Jim Jones ft. Ryan Leslie- Precious

Here’s what’s being called the newest single from Jim Jones’ upcoming album, Pray IV Reign. Nah Right is calling it “possibly” the first, but I swore the other day on MTV that they had the Ron Brownz joint “Pop Champagne” credited to Pray IV Reign.

My first impression of this is pretty decent too. It never hurts with me to have R Les on your track (and presumably producing you). Not being a die-hard Dipset stan, I think I can say with objectivity that Jim Jones has definitely been one of those rappers who you can chart their growth through their records; with very publicized records at that. He may not be Biggie or L, but tell me he’s not in that top 5 of most recognizable voices in hip-hop today.

Thanks to Nah Right for the track.

Download: Kool G Rap and DJ Polo- I Declare War (unreleased)

I told you before that any time I can post G Rap, I will. This is one of those rare opportunities, thanks to Grandgood, via Unkut. This was unearthed from Marley Marl’s personal vault recently. It came from the Roads to Riches sessions.
