Archive for the “Video” Category

Can’t lie, I was pretty captivated by this. It was like watching a train wreck, and it felt too real.

As for the story behind this; it was allegedly a music video shoot turned short film. It was shown at a festival recently from what I read. And now it’s on the internets.

It’s no wonder live bands in hip-hop is the big thing now.

Drake said, unequivocally, he isn’t dissing Tupac Shakur on “Fear.” He’s just pointing out that he was too young to fully feel the impact of the music icon at the time of his passing.

“I never cried when ‘Pac died,” Drake raps on the song from his So Far Gone EP. “But I probably will when Hov does/ And if my tears hold value, then I would drop one for every single thing he showed us/ And I’ll be standing in a puddle.”
-via MTV

Was it even necessary for him to explain this? Did people REALLY think he was going at Tupac? I never use “smh” but I think it may be merited here.

Cuz I’m shaking my head.

Not really. It just looks like it.

Go ahead and call me late, but tell me this doesn’t look like the love child The Matrix and the Billie Jean video would have.

I heard someone say that you should never judge a new rapper by their first radio single.

Jesus, wasn’t that true with B.o.B… (Haterzzz er’where we go)

Anyway, I think I found a group who actually broke that mold. Let’s just hope their next few singles don’t tank because I like this one…

Please don’t say, “Mark, they’ve been around a minute! You don’t know anything, they even have other videos!” True, but this is the first one I see on MTV regularly.

Take that.

Something I’ve always respected about hip-hop is that it never hides from what it does. And that includes open corporate sponsorships and partnerships with “the man.”

Do you realize that this kind of association ruins artists in other genres? Metallica fans said they sold out just because they started making videos and actually went platinum. That’s low standards for “selling out.”

Not hip-hop though. Even back in the day, Run-DMC had an endorsement deal with adidas. Your favorite rappers have continued that proud tradition with Vitamin Water, Fat Burger chains, and car ads. Not to mention clothing lines have lived and died through their image and alignment with rappers.

That’s why this latest Dr Pepper ad with Dr Dre didn’t surprise me. It actually made me smile. What’s the big deal though?

Well, this ad features the first clip of a beat that will be featured on Detox.

Yes, the most anticipated hip-hop album of the past decade had a partial premiere on a soda commercial.

Some may say it’s selling out. I say it’s history repeating itself

Fresh off stage after giving a great performance, Big Sean does an interview with my fellow Northeastern student, Jordan Martins, where he talks about the videos he’s been working on (funded by himself by the way). It was also shot and edited by yours truly (me!). so take a peek and see what Big Sean has to say. By the way if you haven’t, go download the mixtape.
