I figure by the end of the week I’ll be done with the SXSW coverage? It really was THAT good, that’s the only reason I got so much for you.

Here’s a video that isn’t mine, but something you should see. Being at the Fader Fort all day, we all knew ‘Ye would be there. Some of us found out Common would be there too, but I think Erykah was a surprise to all of us. It was already enough to be seeing “The Light,” but the crowd really erupted when she hit the stage.

…I’m done.

So, as you guys should know, Erykah Badu has some rhymin’ skills (Mark didn’t) and at SXSW she battled Common. It kind of looks like he had no chance because Erykah definitely hands it to him. But let me know who you think won…

Download: Common- Be (original version produced by J Dilla)

This surfaced a few hours ago on Nah Right and caught my attention quicker than anything all week. The actual album version of this song is one of my favorite cuts from that album, and maybe my favorite intro track ever.

This new cut though, is apparently the “original version,” and was produced by J Dilla. It’s being unearthed for DJ Eves new mixtape hosted by Oddisee.

Nardwuar, the quirky interviewer that Pharrell loves is back at it again; this time with Common. I don’t think this one tops the Pharrell interview.

I’d also say it’s less awkward than the Jay-Z interview, but it depends on your criteria for awkward (wait til you see the Williams sisters question with Common and you’ll see what I mean).

These are the two giants in hip-hop whose opinions I value highly, and both gave some great insight to Obama’s victory last night. I definitely think you should watch ?uesto’s clip, as there’s a good message in there about not riding on high too long and to make sure we really enact change with this victory.

Download: Jelani - The Sixth Sense Freestyle

If you aren’t up on Jelani, he’s an artist over at Notherground (of 6th Sense fame). He was also on our first mixtape. Head over to www.waityoucanrap.com to cop his full album for free.

This one of those cuts I was tellin’ you about from my time in the studio the past 2 weeks. I love the way this turned out. It was definitely cool watching this track take shape, and learning a lot in the process.

Look forward to a lot more from Jelani soon.

My boy B Nyce is always telling me to let people listen to stuff as I make it because he thinks tracing the development of an artist is one of the coolest things to witness. But how can anyone compare themselves to Common, I sure as hell can’t. B’s right though, it’s something I really enjoy witnessing with artists, producers, writers, whoever; and I didn’t even realize it.

You can REALLY do that with Common now, with the (re)surfacing of this demo of his from 1991. Apparently he sent this to The Source, which earned him his spot in the “Unsigned Hype” column. From what I understand, No I.D. handled the production on this.

If you’re on your hip-hop internet grind, you probably saw this by now. But if you’ve had the flu and have been coughing like a TB patient (like me), then you’ll enjoy just seeing this.

Good news is Universal Mind Control will be released in November, according to Common.

Common’s also going to be co-starring in the new Terminator flick AND he reveals the Justice League movie has been on hold since the writer’s strike, meaning no Common as Green Lantern for a minute.

Three part interview with Common. They talk about recording with the Neptunes, why Electric Circus was hated on, and a lot more. Any time this guy does in-depth interviews, they’re always really good, but I don’t think he gets that kind of face time often enough.  Either way, check it out (2nd and 3rd parts inside).

If I did a video of the week, this would be it. Great video, and a good track too. The song is from Common’s upcoming album, Invincible Summer. After seeing this, I feel a lot better about it too.
