Something I’ve always respected about hip-hop is that it never hides from what it does. And that includes open corporate sponsorships and partnerships with “the man.”

Do you realize that this kind of association ruins artists in other genres? Metallica fans said they sold out just because they started making videos and actually went platinum. That’s low standards for “selling out.”

Not hip-hop though. Even back in the day, Run-DMC had an endorsement deal with adidas. Your favorite rappers have continued that proud tradition with Vitamin Water, Fat Burger chains, and car ads. Not to mention clothing lines have lived and died through their image and alignment with rappers.

That’s why this latest Dr Pepper ad with Dr Dre didn’t surprise me. It actually made me smile. What’s the big deal though?

Well, this ad features the first clip of a beat that will be featured on Detox.

Yes, the most anticipated hip-hop album of the past decade had a partial premiere on a soda commercial.

Some may say it’s selling out. I say it’s history repeating itself

Amazon needs to update their cover-art. If it was a higher res, you could see how all the individual pills make up Marshall’s face.

Relapse drops May 19. Let’s all buy Bill O’Reilly copies and send them to him.

Rap Radar has confirmed DJ Vlad’s initial report that Bishop Lamont had been dropped from Aftermath. No word on whether he was dropped or left, but the story YN is telling is that Bishop Lamont is no longer on the Aftermath/Interscope roster.

First Joell, now Bishop Lamont. That label is gonna do everything to get these three Dre, Em and 50 records out, huh?

Eminem ft. Dr Dre & 50 Cent- Crack a Bottle

That headline woulda had you in fits in 1999-2000, at least the Eminem and Dr Dre part. This track, I’m told, is the final version of the song (there have been others floating around). If you haven’t heard it yet, it definitely feels like an Em track, so don’t worry, he didn’t jump on the auto-tune and sing.

And its provided us with a Dre sighting.

Dr Dre’s 20 year old son, Andre Young Jr., was found dead in his Woodland Hills, CA home on Saturday. It was just confirmed to the press today that it was in fact Dre’s son. The cause of death is unknown.

From MTV:

A spokesperson for Dr. Dre issued the following statement Tuesday on the rapper’s behalf: “Dr. Dre is mourning the loss of his son Andre Young Jr. Please respect his family’s grief and privacy at this time.”

This really shocked me when I saw it. Burying your child isn’t right. My condolences to Dre’s friends and family. I wish I was posting a Detox release date, not an obituary. This is very sad news.

The track is apparently produced by Dr Dre. I can believe it. Consider this the first installment of the 2 Many MCs.com Detox Watch.

Reaffirming to us at the end that Detox is coming. He’s really become Dre’s official spokesman on Detox hasn’t he? I think Bishop Lamont may be the real heir to Aftermath (sorry Game). If he’s got Lord Finesse on his side too… he’s definitely keeping my attention.

Xzibit’s in the video too, but I kinda cosign with eskay.
